How to Safely Send Passwords & API Keys Over Slack
Keep the raw secret out of the Slack message. Encrypt it here, then copy the complete burn link into a direct message to your intended recipient.
Syntax preview
Create a one-open link for a Slack DM. Verify who you are messaging before sharing. Literal values only; no expansion. One KEY=VALUE pair per line. Encrypted in this browser. No signup.
Questions about this handoff
Can I paste a password directly into this editor?
Use a literal KEY=VALUE line such as PASSWORD=your_value. The editor validates the key-value syntax; it does not verify that the password is correct.
Should I post the burn link in a Slack channel?
Share it directly with the intended recipient. A burn link limits retrieval, but anyone with the complete link could be the first to open it.
A direct handoff in three steps
Enter only the password or key the recipient needs. Generate a burn link with a short expiry, then copy that link into your Slack DM. Ask the recipient to choose Decrypt & Reveal when ready.
Need to confirm access?
Switch to a two-way ephemeral room before encrypting. Your secret is sent as a masked message and the invite opens a room for the exchange. New rooms are limited to two browser sessions.
The link is a credential too
Anyone holding the complete link may retrieve the note before it is consumed. Use a trusted direct channel, confirm the intended recipient and rotate the original credential when appropriate. Vanish cannot revoke a password in another service.
