VANISH PRIVATE CHAT GUIDE
Encrypted messaging without signup
Vanish encrypts message bodies in participant browsers before upload. You do not need an account to create or enter a room.
What happens when you send
Your browser derives a room key from the invitation secret. It encrypts each message before uploading it. The service relays and temporarily stores ciphertext, along with information needed to run the room, such as its random identifier and deadline. The secret portion of the invite stays in the URL fragment during ordinary website requests.
What the invite proves
The complete link proves possession of a secret, not a person’s identity. Someone who receives or finds it can join until expiry. An optional 4–6 digit PIN adds friction when shared separately, but a short PIN is not strong protection on its own.
What encryption does not hide
The service still processes ordinary network data and can observe timing, approximate payload size, and room activity. A browser extension, infected device, or recipient can expose decrypted text. Vanish has not been independently audited and does not provide forward secrecy.
When to use it
Use an accountless room for a brief conversation when quick access matters and you trust the invite channel and participants. For long-term, high-risk communication, choose an independently audited messenger with identity verification and the features your situation requires.
Before you start
Do I need an account to create a room?
No. Create a free temporary room in your browser and share its complete secret invite directly.
Can recipients keep copies after expiry?
Yes. Room expiry stops access through Vanish, but it cannot erase screenshots or other copies made by recipients.
