VANISH PRIVATE CHAT GUIDE
Sharing an API key for a short handoff
Use a dedicated secrets manager for production credentials. For a brief low-risk handoff, Vanish can reduce chat history with a short expiry and masked display.
Syntax preview
Literal values only; no expansion. One KEY=VALUE pair per line. Encrypted in this browser. No signup.
Use masked secret mode
Create a room, enable Send as masked secret, and send the token. The recipient can copy it without showing the value on screen, or hold to reveal it temporarily.
Send the invite separately
The complete invite grants access. Send it directly to the intended person, confirm their identity through another channel when appropriate, and rotate the credential after use.
Know the limits
Recipients can copy the key; expiry cannot revoke it. Vanish has not had an independent security audit, identity verification, or workplace access controls.
Questions about this tool
Does Vanish expand my .env values?
No. The editor validates literal KEY=VALUE lines without expanding variables or executing values.
Does the link revoke my API key when it expires?
No. Expiry limits access to the Vanish note or room, not the underlying credential. Recipients can keep copies. Rotate credentials when appropriate.
